What is On-Page SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

On-page SEO is the optimization of individual web pages in order to rank higher and earn more relevant organic traffic in search engines.
There a few mandatory and basic steps to follow..

Below I will list a few of these. I implement all of these as part of my web development process.

Set up Google Analytics

While this might not seem like the most critical part of on page SEO, The benifits of doing this will be apparent during your SEO journey.

As soon as you start generating traffic on your website, you will be able to monitor where the traffic is being generated and what sort of content is popular with your audience.

This will allow you to focus your content marketing efforts on the right type of content.

Meta Titles & Description

Title
Your title tag, h1 tag and url should be clear as to what your article or webpage content is about.
Include your keyword in the title, h1 tag and url.
The title should be no longer than 60 characters

Description
Summarize the content in as few words as possible.
Keep your description under 160 characters.
Descriptions should be unique and relevant to each page.

Images

Use high quality images on your website that are relevant to your content.
High resolution images can be heavy and will affect page loading time, use a photo editor to optimize and compress your images.
Include alt-text on every image so that Google can understand what the image is about.

Link Building

Linking to external sites is an important way of providing greater context to your content.
An example of this...
if you were writing an article about the importance of using a good running shoe, you could link to a website that sells these type of shoes..

This also gives you an opportunity to get inbound links from that particular website. Reach out to the website administrator and discuss a possiblity of this.
